Man Space

Photographic Series

I wanted to take an ethnographic approach to my photography work, something I had yet to experiment with–to just go there and shoot. I wanted the story to come from a truth, this is how these specific people live, it’s their lives, their story.  I entitled the series, Man Space, because the series reveals how these men choose to surround themselves, it’s their space. As you move through the images, you can see the individual.  Each object shows a sneak peek of what encompasses the individual’s life. Are they an artist? Are they a collector of things? Are they clean and tidy, or bare and minimal?  Each item within the image can describe a piece of the person’s life.  As you move through the images, you can compare and contrast them to what you think a woman’s living space would be like. Are there similarities or differences? Stereotypes? The photographs reveal how these men live in their home and this tells the viewer a story of their life by the objects that surround them (or lack there of).
